Education Animal Keeper | $14.00 an hour | Full Time, Permanent

Position Overview

The Education Department at Wildlife Safari is currently accepting applications for an Education Keeper with great people skills, a passion for animals and education, and an energetic, positive personality. The Education position directly assists the Education Director in coordinating daily operations of the Education Department and is responsible for the development and implementation of educational programs including interpretation as well as the management of the department’s animal collection.

The Education position is responsible for the husbandry and well-being of all species allocated to the department. Duties include but are not limited to: cleaning enclosures, diet preparation, handling of all education animal collection, behavioral conditioning, daily enrichment, and medical care and admission of drugs under the direction of the Veterinarian/Education Director.

This position creates curriculum for camps and classes, runs day camps and homeschool programs, presents public outreach programs, conducts guided tours, overnight camps, and creates social media posts, flyers and posters. Other responsibilities include professional networking, public relations, and public speaking. The Educator will work with the Education team to market and enhance the Education Department’s unique programs as well as help with their evaluation.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Performs animal keeping duties extending to all animal husbandry and exhibit maintenance functions and ensures that established husbandry standards are met.
  • Handles education animal collection as trained.
  • Suggests daily behavioral enrichment and training programs.
  • Observes and communicates health, diet, animal behavior, and other husbandry needs of the department’s collection to the Education Director.
  • Dispenses drugs and treatments prescribed by authorized Veterinarian.
  • Assists in capture, restraint, and transport of animals in the department.
  • In the absence of the Lead Educator and Education Director, performs the duties of the supervisor in charge during emergency procedures in a Code as needed.
  • Monitors the public ensuring the safety of visitors and animals.
  • Remains current with new husbandry methodologies, techniques, and programs in order to transfer appropriate information and knowledge to zoo staff through meetings and keeper training programs.
  • Assists supervisor in overseeing and training new staff in protocols and safety procedures.
  • Assists the supervisor in updating and writing of new protocols and safety procedures.
  • Assists supervisor in animal introductions.
  • Participates in guest/public outreach programs, creates curriculum for camps and classes.
  • Runs day camps as well as overnight camps.
  • Conducts guided tours.
  • Creates social media posts, flyers and posters.
  • Works with the Education team to market and enhance the Education Department’s unique programs as well as help with their evaluation.
  • Serves on special committees, for example, The Wildlife Safari Conservation Committee, or the Safety Committee, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Able to bend, stoop, crawl and walk on uneven surfaces.Ability to lift up to 50 (fifty) pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work outdoors and indoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Good physical health, ability to pass pre-employment, substance and annual TB tests.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a minimum 3-year history and clean driving record.
  • Ability to remain a flexible, motivated, good communicator and dedicated team player.
  • Requires strong animal care, interpersonal, and leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Prefer 1-year experience in work relevant to animals. 1-year experience as a formal or an informal educator or interpreter

Customer Service Clerk | $12.50 an hour | Full Time/ Part Time

Position Overview

Join Wildlife Safari as a seasonal staff member! Our seasonal staff makes the park work as they check guests in, sell enrichment encounters, serve food, drive the train, and more! Help families build life long memories as you take on the role of a seasonal staff member. There are multiple departments that are customer service oriented including Booth Department, Restaurant, Guest Services, and Gift Shop. You will mainly be in one department with expectation to assist other departments as needed; breakdown of departments and responsibilities are at the end. Weekends are required for all positions. Wildlife Safari is a drug-free workplace and requires a clean drug test prior to position hire.

Position Goal

The goal of the Customer Service Clerk is to create a positive, fun, and professional impression of the park. In many instances, the Entrance Clerk is the only interaction that members and guests will have with park staff; therefore, the incumbent must demonstrate outstanding customer service skills, up-sell the park’s benefits and services as appropriate, and acquire extensive park knowledge to answer questions and advise guests as required.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests in enthusiastic and sincere manner
  • Open and close entrance gate (when working entrance booth)
  • Transact sales; distribute tickets, receipts, maps, etc.
  • Accurately handle cash and credit card sales
  • Explain the park rules
  • Inspect vehicles to assure guest, animal and keeper safety
  • Answer guest questions
  • Up-sell park products and services as appropriate e.g. memberships, encounters, facility rental, etc.
  • Sell guidebooks, kennel locks, cameras, batteries, etc.
  • Respond as required to park codes
    • Gate operation at a fast pace

Department Breakdown

  • Guest Services: The Guest Services Clerk assists with the scheduling of group tours, animal encounters, facility rentals, special events, and memberships while delivering outstanding customer service. Guest Services Clerks work mostly indoors, stand & walk throughout the day, and must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Answering phone calls and doing gift shop transaction sales are a daily task.
  • Safari Guide: The Safari Guide greets park guests, hands out village schedules, promotes events and answers basic guest questions. They also direct guests to Guest Services for registration, memberships, encounters or more in depth questions. Safari Guides drive the Safari Village Train and drive guests through the park for animal encounters. Safari Guides work mostly outdoors, stand & walk throughout the day, and must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Due to the driving component of this position, Safari Guides are required to have a three-year clean driving record and valid drivers license.
  • Gift Shop Clerk: The Gift Shop Clerk welcomes guests into the gift shop, assists Guest Services, answers questions about park products and services, directs guests to appropriate resources, and handles cash and credit sales. Gift Shop Clerks work between indoors and outdoors, stand & walk throughout the day, and must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Booth Clerk: The Booth Clerk welcomes guests to the park, transacts sales, verifies memberships, provides park rules and information to guests, and may work in a variety of settings including Admissions, Camel Ride Booth, Feed Cup Booth, Aviary Attendant, and more. Booth Clerks work mostly outdoors, stand & walk throughout the day, and must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Food Services: The Food Services team at Wildlife Safari is responsible for preparing and serving a menu of items including grilled, deep fried, and cold items, along with soups, pastas and chili. Staff will also be responsible for taking/running orders, cashiering, serving ice cream, cooking, cleaning tables & dishes, etc. The Food Services Team works mostly indoors in a high-temperature environment, stand & walk throughout the day, and must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Part of the team runs the Snack Shack; an outdoor concession stand.
Janitor | $14.00 an hour | Full Time

Position Overview

The janitor is responsible for the overall cleanliness and appearance of building and grounds including the gift shop, administrative offices, event areas, education, clinic and restaurant as well as restrooms, meeting rooms and other office, public or meeting facilities as assigned. Working closely with Guest Services and the Event Coordinator for events and facilities for rentals.

Position Goal

The goal of the janitor is to create a positive impression of the park by keeping the building and grounds in a clean, neat and orderly fashion.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains cleanliness of floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming as needed
  • Cleans and polishes floors as needed
  • Gathers and empties trash daily
  • Services, cleans, sanitizes and supplies restrooms daily
  • Cleans windows, glass partitions and mirrors
  • Dusts furniture walls, machines, light fixtures and equipment
  • Steam cleans and shampoos carpets
  • Strips, seals, finishes and polishes floors
  • Informs maintenance supervisor of any observed issues requiring further maintenance attention or care
  • Completes requisitions for supplies and equipment as needed
  • Sets up and arranges tables, chairs and other décor for various events and rental needs
  • Is courteous and pleasant to guests. Directs guests to appropriate resources as needed
  • Assists maintenance team in repair and upkeep of other park areas or projects as needed
  • Perform other assigned duties

Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a drug test, including for marijuana

Landscaper | $14.00 an hour | Full Time, Permanent

Position Overview

Maintain grounds by using hand and power tools and equipment. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: watering, mowing, trimming, planting, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation, decorating, and creating while providing curb appeal. The main focus of this position is to work alone doing weed wacking, mowing, and clearing debris in different areas of the drive thru. Please be advised, landscaper comes into contact with poison oak frequently and has to be diligent and aware of surroundings. 

Position Goal

The goal of the landscaper is to keep the grounds looking presentable in a safe and positive manner.

 

Responsibilities

  • Use hand tools to manually remove brush and debris
  • Read and interpret safety operating documents used to operate equipment
  • Cut lawns using push mower and riding mowers
  • Ability to follow safety procedures on a daily basis
  • Interact with employee and guest in a courteous manner
  • Trim shrubs, bushes, trees, and pull weeds
  • Rake, mulch, and prune grounds as needed
  • Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides as needed
  • Shovel and move landscaping materials
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment utilized for Landscaping
  • Perform other assigned duties

Qualifications

    • Ability to work throughout the seasons in various weather conditions
    • A minimum high school diploma or equivalency
    • Candidates must agree to a background check
    • Valid Driver’s license and clean driving record
    • Must be able to pass drug test including random tests
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and be able to bend and lift
    • Must possess excellent organizational skills with ability to juggle multiple responsibilities
    • Must wear weather appropriate clothing, including hats, gloves, boots and rain gear
Maintenance Worker | $14.00 an hour | Full Time, Permanent

Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician performs installation, repair and improvements of park equipment and facilities. Also assists the Project Manager in the completion of capital and other special park projects. This position requires more advanced maintenance ability including ability to work with electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

Position Goal

The goal of the maintenance technician is to maintain the utility of the park and its facilities by performing more advanced maintenance tasks as assigned by the department supervisor or as needed by the project manager.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general maintenance of drive-through including road, fence, and building repairs
  • Performs general maintenance of village area including exhibits, walkways, and fence repairs
  • Assists in the construction of park buildings including pens, shelters, and feeders
  • Performs digging, trenching, shoveling, and other manual labor
  • Responds to service calls requiring more advanced maintenance knowledge and skill
  • Assists in the installation, repair, and upgrade of park equipment
  • Operates park machinery and equipment
  • Hauls various materials throughout park
  • Cleans, organizes and properly stores tools and equipment
  • Variety of other maintenance tasks as assigned
