The Village Department has a diverse collection of over 40 exotic and domestic species! Interns will learn to work both independently as well as alongside keeper staff. Independently, they’ll gain hands-on experience in two animal runs that includes our Australian Walkabout exhibit as well as our reptile area and petting zoo. In these sections, they’ll be responsible for daily husbandry, enrichment, and diet preparation and allocation. Alongside keeper staff, they’ll gain experience with other animals such as red pandas, lemurs, small primates, and maned wolves. This internship will help interns gain knowledge in every aspect of animal care including, but not limited to; diet preparation, daily husbandry, basic exhibit maintenance, enrichment, operant conditioning, medical procedures, observation, and public education. The Village Department interacts with the public daily through keeper talks and private encounters; memorization and public speaking skills are required. The ideal candidate for our internship will be someone who can be flexible, maintain a positive attitude, and a fun-loving individual.
